Natanz Iron Mill Complex

Natanz Iron Mill Co. produces steel ingot. The company activities include raw steel or steel ingot production, which is performed in a totally specialized way using state-of-the-art technologies. 

 In order to supply the steel ingots required by the complex, the company managers are installing machineries and completing another unit with capacity of 600,000 tons per year, having opened the Natanz Iron Mill first phase and steel ingots production. This department, with a physical progress of over 70%, will hopefully start to work on February 11, in occasion of anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, to prevent importing 600,000 tons of steel ingots per year and supply a portion of the complex needs for raw materials. In the 3rd phase of the development plan of Natanz Steel Mill Co., which is the 5th phase of the complex, machineries of two steel mill departments, with capacity of 850,000 and 1,700,000 tons per year and total production capacity of 2,400,000 tons of steel ingots will be all supplied by the investment of company's directors and carried to the factory. We intend to increase our steel ingots production capacity by 2,500,000 tons per year using sponge iron; and this may not come through without your supports. 

Natanz Iron Mill Co.

Natanz Iron Mill Co. consists of three production lines:

    * SMP1 production line

In this factory, steel ingots are produced in dimensions of 120 x120 and 6 meters in length using an electric arc furnace. Production capacity of this factory is 150 thousand tons per year which meets a part of the complex rolling lines requirements.


 

    * SMP2 production line

SMP2 project is under construction aiming to produce various types of steel billets with capacity of 500,000 tons per year and has had a physical progress of over 70 percent so far.


Production line of SMP2 project includes the following equipment and products:

1 - UHP electric arc furnace with a capacity of 75 tons of molten steel

Having the (UHP) Trance 63MVA, the furnace is considered ultra-high power and the ejection will be taken place by the floor (EBT). Melting duration in the furnace is about 65 minutes and it is able to recharge the sponge iron by 90% as the metal charge. In addition to reducing the need for scrap and creating added value, sponge iron charge will also save time. Continuous charging system of auxiliaries and low-alloys allows the complex to produce low alloy steels and moderate carbon steels as well.

 

2 - Cauldron furnace 

In the furnace, which is equipped with a graphite electrode holder arms, operations such as temperature homogenization and chemical analysis can take place. Argon or nitrogen blowing from the floor helps to stir the molten liquid in the cauldron.  The final analysis of steel will be also determined in the cauldrons furnace. 

 

3 - Continuous casting machine 

Continuous casting machine is manufactured by CONCAST Co. in Switzerland with 4 casting branches which are capable of producing steel billets in sizes of: 100*100mm to 150*150mm. Quality of the manufactured steel can be highly increased using refractory coatings. 

 

4 - Subsidiary Departments

4-1- Air Separation Department

In this department, oxygen, nitrogen and argon are respectively produced with the capacity of 3000m3/ h, 700m3/ h, and 200m3/ h. 

 

2-4 - Compressed Air Production Department

In this department, compressed air is produced using a compressor to be used in the production line and other service stations. Compressed air is mainly used de-dusting department. Another application of compressed air is to open the cauldron slide valve of the cauldron containing molten material in the casting station. 

 

4-3- De-dusting Department

This department is considered one of the most important departments in a steel production factory and is responsible for collecting the dust and smoke caused by charging materials and melting in the electric arc and cauldron furnace. Using modern methods of filtration, de-dusting department of SMP2 project standardize the amount of dust entering the environment. 

 

4-4-Laboratory and R&D departments

In laboratory department, the customer’s intended analysis will be stabilized and in R&D department, how to minimize the product defects will be investigated.

   * SMP3 production line

SMP3 project with a progress of 40% will produce equivalent to 1,700,000 tons of steel billets and slabs in the near future.

 

All these three lines produce ferrous scrap, sponge iron, steel billets and slabs.
